What is a board foot?

Spray foam insulation is measured in board feet and we understand that can be a confusing term in how it is applicable.

Understanding how to measure a board foot is useful because it will allow you to accurately estimate the installation cost and know just how much space you will be insulating

Board feet are calculated from the square footage of the cavities in the area you going to insulate.

Typically, the dimensions of a board foot is 12 inches by 12 inches by 1 inch.  The equation of a board foot is a volume measurement and in this case; used to find out how much spray foam is needed to fill the space.  To get this measurement you would multiply the length by the height by the thickness or R-Value necessary.
